Happy Holidays: The Best Holiday Tradition Is Spreading Kindness Like Swirling Snowflakes

The holidays are the most wonderful time of the year, right? So with all that joy swirling around, why do we often feel so stressed and overwhelmed? With so much pulling at us, with so many people needing our attention, with so many bittersweet memories of the way holidays used to be, and with so much heartache over loved ones we have lost along the way, this festive time of year also can be the toughest time of year.

My remedy? Gratitude and kindness. Remembering all I have to be grateful for keeps me in the mindset of giving back and spreading kindness. And when you do something to help others, it takes away some of your own stress, pain and heartache. With a grateful heart and an abundance mindset, I find that giving back moves you forward.

As I write this, much of the country is being challenged by a vicious winter storm that’s spreading snow, ice, wind and bitter temperatures – and generally causing chaos. I’m thinking of all those who are on the front lines of this battle, whether they are in harm’s way or they are helping those who are in harm’s way.

That’s why my husband and I spent the day spreading kindness. As the fat snowflakes began to fall, we cooked and baked for others; we dropped off donations for families in need; we sang and danced to “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano (more than once) with mi madre and my father; we tried to make a difference in our own way.

As those snowflakes were swirling, we were smiling. Because each time we made life a bit better for someone else, we felt a whole lot better. With passion and purpose, giving back centers and fulfills us. Our holiday tradition of spreading kindness like swirling snowflakes is the thing I look forward to most about this time of year.

I know there’s already so much going on during the holiday season, but by adding “spreading kindness” to our to-do lists, together we can create a blizzard of gratitude that makes life better for so many people, including ourselves.

Thank you for being part of our community; we are so grateful for you. We wish you all a joyful holiday season!

My book, Become the Fire: Transform Life’s Chaos into Business and Personal Success, makes a great gift.
