I had to submit an audio sample of me reading a 5-minute excerpt of the book, almost like an audition, to secure my role as narrator. Yep, voice actors and professional narrators are a thing, and they’re really good at what they do. So I was thrilled to “get the part!”
In the studio, I had to wear “quiet” clothing and jewelry while recording, because the mic picks up everything.
Because the mic picks up everything, the amazing sound engineer I worked with could hear every single thing that happened in my private recording booth. That means after taking a sip of water and my stomach gurgled, we’d giggle (I could hear her through my headphones).
About eating: “I’ll know you’re hungry before you do!” she said right before my tummy rumbled. After lunch, she had the kindness to say, “Well that was a dainty burp!” I was embarrassed, but she said she’s heard so much worse!
Aren’t you glad I keep it real for ya? Being the authentic you is part of becoming the fire, so you get the authentic me (lucky you, LOL)!
