Why Setting High Standards & Striving for Excellence Increase Your Chances of Success

Angela Martinez Korompilas with her advance copy of “Become the Fire.”

One of the things I admire most about Angela Martinez Korompilas is that she always brings her A game. She puts her whole heart into what she does, dedicating herself to giving her personal best effort. When you set a high standard for performance and strive for excellence in what you care about most, you increase the chances that you will be very good at it and become recognized for it.

This is part of what drove Angela’s amazing career trajectory at American Hotel Register Company. Starting out in sales, Angela rose through the ranks – eventually earning the top job of president and CEO of the $1 billion hospitality supply business. Now, as a partner at CEO Coaching International, she helps other CEOs to become their best.

I’m honored that Angela shared her inspiring story in Become the Fire: Transform Life’s Chaos into Business and Personal Success. As the featured “Flame” in the chapter on being the best, Angela explains how she put herself through school then navigated her skyrocketing career. She shares many insights learned from her experiences on the road to becoming a CEO, to encourage women from all walks of life to achieve their own success.

Angela attributes her success to always learning, being authentic and bringing her strongest self. “I set super high standards for myself and everyone around me. I am not perfect, and I’m honest about who I am. But I always give it my best. When you dig a little deeper, that’s where all the goodness is.”

You can read more about Angela, and get many more of her insights, by preordering your copy of Become the Fire (foreword by Mary Dillon, former CEO of Ulta Beauty) for yourself or for someone you think may benefit from the stories and lessons shared by her and this diverse group of highly successful women:
